1. School
Reading at school can be difficult. Even when you do get the time, even quiet places like the library can be so loud you can barely think. So at lunchtimes and break times find somewhere quiet to just sit down with your book and relax.
2. Sport
I love gymnastics, but I do find that it eats up a fair amount of my time. Some ways to read when you're involved in sport, are 1.) to read when you get a break. Even the hardest working athletes take breaks. Take a break. 2.) read when stretching. It doesn't matter what sport you do, it's never harmful to stretch. And the good thing is, it's super slow, so you can read whilst doing it! 3.) If you have like a treadmill or spin bike or something, find a place to rest your book, and read whilst working out (this works best with eBooks).
3. Audio books
If you want to know the story, but don't have time to read, buy an audio book on your phone or iPod. By doing this, you can literally listen to your audio book everywhere. I'm personally not a big fan of this; I'm a visual learner and find it harder to concentrate when listening to things, but I know people who prefer audio books. Personal preference.
4. eBooks
eBooks make life easier to read sometimes, because they're smaller, sometimes lighter, and you only have to hold them with one hand (or lean it against something.) eBooks are more portable, and are easier to lean on something if you need to do something else. Find out more good things about eBooks here.
5. Walk and Read
This is a skill that I have learned to master over the years. I feel slightly, but not wholly, embarrassed by the fact that the person who inspired me to learn to walk whilst reading, was that bookworm girl in the Barbie movie the 12 Dancing Princesses. Now I can just walk and read, and not bump into anything (most of the time...) I'd say that I'm fairly talented, being able to do that.
6. Weekends and Holidays
Or, as I like to call them; days where I can read in peace! On Weekends and Holidays I basically have "read books" scribbled all over my schedule. There's not really much else to say on this subject.
Reading TMOHTBI and vacuuming |
This one's pretty self explanatory. When you're doing chores (vacuuming, folding clothes etc) just multi task and do those boring things whilst reading. Disclaimer: this does make these tasks take way longer. So if you need them done quickly, just don't do this. Another Disclaimer: It sounds easier than it is.
8. Carry Books
And you cannot read in places, if you don't have a book with you! I know that I'm not alone when I say that I can't go anywhere without bringing a book with me. And if I'm almost finished a book, I make sure I have a second one on hand as well! This can be extremely useful at boring family conventions, boring outings with your friends, boring school, or boring public transport trips.
9. Reading in Bed
I always feel refreshed and awake after reading for a bit when I wake up. I am NOT a morning person AT ALL. Because of this, people find it horrid to be around me in the morning. No joke. But if actually get the chance to read before I got up, I'm a tiny bit more pleasant to deal with.
10. Reading in Bed pt2
I like nothing more than to end the day by staying up until 3 o'clock finishing an amazing book. But you don't need to stay up that late. It's so relaxing, and an awesome way to calm down and put you to sleep after a day of life. I've been reading before bed since I could read, and I can't imagine not doing it.
11. Make Time
Stop for a second and actually make time to read! Whether it's during your lunch break, or just half an hour before cooking dinner at home, find the time to curl up with a good book and read.
DON'T!
Though there are tons of things you can do while reading, here are some of things that you definitely can't do. Ever.
- do not read in the bath. That's a BIG no no. We do not want to drown our books.
- do not read whilst eating or drinking. Do you want crumbs in your book, or water stains through the pages? (This one I've broken numerous times...)
- do not bring them into the shower. I feel like this doesn't need to be said, but I said it anyway. Deal with it.
- do not read when with people. I've been told that it's "rude" and "anti-social". Like, what?
