Books I Cried In

SPOILERS AHEAD. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED...

My Sister Jodie by Jacqueline Wilson

I read this book so many times when I was younger, but I only really digested what happened when I re-read it aged 11. There are literally tear stains on the pages of it, and even though it's for younger readers, I still cry when I read it.

Tear Factor: 65/100

Allegiant by Veronica Roth

I may not be the biggest Divergent fan in the planet, but I'd have to be heartless if I didn't cry at the end of Allegiant. It's not so much that Tris died (okay...maybe it was) but the way that Veronica Roth wrote it had tears pouring down my face.

Tear factor: 70/100

Maximum Ride: Fang by James Patterson

Maximum Ride is one of my favourite series. And when your favourite character just ups and leaves, well, I'm obviously going to be upset. When Fang left, at first I was like, okay, that happened. But when I read the letter that he left for Max, a part of me died inside. At least he didn't die.

Tear factor: 85/100

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green

I bet it doesn't surprise you that this book is on the list. It's on every single "sad book" list that I've ever seen. That makes sense, because it's also one of the saddest books ever. When you think "sad books" your mind is auto directed to The Fault In Our Stars. Don't deny it. Cancer and death are never particularly cheerful subjects, and when it's written by John Green, it makes it 100% worse.

Tear factor: 90/100

Dandelion Clocks by Rebecca Westcott

Surprisingly, I used up more tissues reading this book, than I did reading The Fault In Our Stars. The way that Rebecca wrote it, made my heart break in half. Unlike some sad books, the main character reacted the way that I'd imagine you would act in her situation. Of course everyone has different ways of grieving.

Tear factor: 100/100

All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

This book tore my heart out, stomped on it, and put it back. I cried for an hour after reading it, and woke up the next morning suffering the consequences with burning eyes. The week after reading it, whenever I so much as thought of the book I burst into tears again. You can check out my review for it here.

Tear factor: 150/100
