After The Selection series ended, there were still lots of
closed doors, and questions dying to be answered. In this book, Kiera shows us
four behind the scenes love stories from the world of The Selection, and a few other extra novellas!
The Queen was my second favourite novella. Amberly is such a loveable person, and it was amazing to get to see her Selection from her eyes. It was strange seeing Maxon's dad as someone that people adored, as someone who was seen as a good guy.
Ironically enough, my favourite novella in this story was The Favourite. In The Selection series before Marlee fell in love with Carter, she was the public's favourite of the Selected. She was also my favourite character in the entire series, so it was so cool to get a novella from her view. In Marlee's novella, it shows the scene where Carter and Marlee are publicly punished for their actions, and then how they live after that.
I really enjoyed reading Scenes From Celeste's POV. Despite being such a horrible, catty person in the series, she always fascinated me. Obviously I hated her when she was horrid to the Selected, but I always felt, especially towards the end of the series, that she was just misunderstood. In Happily Ever After we get to read three scenes from Celeste's POV. We get to read about the ride to the palace, and see that she was actually lonely, and wanting someone to fangirl with. We get to read about The Kiss that America catches them. We also get to see the scene where Celeste is dismissed, and I realised that she's actually a decent human being.
Where are they now? shows us what Natalie, Elise and Kriss are doing after The One. I found this really fascinating.
The Prince and The Guard talked about both Maxon's and Aspen's views on The Selection, which was fun to read.
Overall, I loved this book, and thought it was a great addition to both my bookshelf, and the series.
★★★★
