Violet and Finch meet on top of the school bell tower. And after spending more time with each other, they start falling in love. "But, as Violet's world grows, Finch's begins to shrink. How far will Violet go to save the boy she has come to love?"
I'm not going to lie; after reading this book, I was an emotional wreck. I think the ending was a bit predictable, but that didn't mean I handled it very well. I thought that All The Bright Places was beautiful. It was written so amazingly, and Jennifer has a real talent, so you felt heartbroken throughout the entire book. The characters came alive for me. They were so well described, and had so much personality that I fell in love with them.
I don't know what I was expecting from this book. I think I thought it'd be like The Fault in Our Stars. But whatever I did expect it to be, it wasn't. Apart from one thing; I expected it to be great, and it was. The plot was full of unexpected twists and turns, and when you expected one thing to happen, something else did. It was gorgeous. I don't think I could handle re-reading it any time soon; my heart is already broken in half, but I will pick it up again in the future.
I've read lots of other book blogger's reviews for All The Bright Places, and I've seen lots of different ideas about it. Some people were scared to read it, others weren't prepared to have their heart stomped on. But I'm yet to find a negative review on it.
The authors note at the end made me cry. This is obviously a subject that's very dear to Jennifer Niven's heart.
I'd definitely not recommend this to younger readers, for obvious reasons. But for teens, I'd say it's a must read.
