Am I Normal Yet? by Holly Bourne

Title: Am I Normal Yet?
Author: Holly Bourne
Publisher: Usborne
Pages: 434
Source: bought

All Evie wants, is to be normal. She wants friends who'll stick with her, a boyfriend, and to go to parties. She's almost off her medication now as well. But life doesn't always go the way we want it to. Now she has two new friends, Amber and Lottie, and even though the three of them munch on cheesy snacks and talk about feminism like they've known each other forever, Evie's hesitant to tell them about how un-normal she really is.

After all, it's tough being a girl.

I love, love, love this book! Lately I've read so many incredible books, and this one is no exception. It's one of my all time favourite books. Reason one why I love it: it's by Holly Bourne. Holly Bourne is my go to author when it comes to recommending books. Reason number two: it's about things that matter. Feminism and OCD are serious topics, and Holly tackled them perfectly. I love books with purpose, and this one had plenty of it.

Before reading this book, the only thing I knew about OCD was what people had told me. You know, the stereotypes.  "I like my room tidy, I must be OCD," or "I don't like to have a messy pencil case, I'm so OCD." So this book was a major eye opener for me. It was really fascinating to see through the eyes of Evie what suffering with OCD is like. Despite it being one of the most "mocked" mental illnesses, it's a really serious one. It's not so much mocked, as misunderstood. Like most mental illnesses, people aren't informed about the illness and it's dangers.

Something that I loved about this book is how it talked a lot about feminism. Evie and her friends founded this thing called The Spinster Club; a feminist organisation with just the three of them. After reading this book, I was pining for some feminist friends so we could create our own Spinster Club! I'm still searching...

I give this book 6/5 stars, because it is just that good! Read it. Seriously. And if you need someone to fangirl about it with, just email me fangirl.kisses@gmail.com or Facebook my page https://www.facebook.com/A-Mountain-of-Books-428015144063602/timeline/
